The Rankin Ranch in California

This California Guest Ranch is just 2 and a half hours north of Los Angeles, near Bakersfield in the beautiful little mountain valley of Walker's Basin. It sits at 3,500 ft. in the lower southern California Sierras. This is very much a family run ranch, six generations of Rankins have worked the place. Today the Ranch is still a thriving enterprise with much diversity. It produces cattle, hay and row crops and welcomes guests from all over the world to enjoy the flavour of the Old West and share a rare and special life style. You can ride twice a day except Sundays and with kids as young as 6 able to take part, there is a horse for every member of the family. Guests enjoy riding through mountain and meadow cattle country and sharing a way of life that continues the warm hospitality and exciting traditions of early California. Walking, hiking and enjoying nature are other favourite activities. They have acres and acres for exploring...you can hike in the oak and pine covered mountains, lush green meadows or along Walker's Basin Creek. All fourteen of the cabins are surrounded by oaks and pines. You will enjoy air-conditioning and large picture windows plus private bathrooms.

Meals are taken in the main Lodge with the emphasis on "down home" cooking. After all the riding there is a heated pool, a hot tub and a tennis court for those with excess energy. A stocked pond allows keen fishermen the chance to catch their own supper. Should you need extra entertainment, you will usually find evening activities which range from Western dancing to a Talent Show.
