The ranch was settled in the 1880's when "Gold Fever" was running rampant in the region. Numerous remnants of that period are still to be seen, such as old abandoned cabins. After the turn of the century, mining gave way to ranching as the mainstay of the economy. You'll have a terrific assortment of exciting things to do at the ranch. Obviously, you can spend the entire week riding both morning and afternoon, enjoying the company of a good horse and extraordinary scenery. The all day rides will take you deep into the wilderness, often climbing above timberline. Overnight pack trips can be arranged at extra cost of about $30 per person. Beginners will be made to feel comfortable on the most gentle of horses and will be given special attention.
Other nearby attractions include the Cave of the Winds, Florissant Fossil Bed National Monument, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, the Garden of the Gods, the Cowboy Hall of Fame, the Broadmoor Motel and Royal Gorge. Fishermen will be in trout heaven at the ranch. Whether a died-in-the-wool fly fisherman or a first-timer, you will find fishing to suit you. The famed Tarryall River runs right through the front yard and there are miles of riverbank to fish.
Each week they offer several choices of rafting, depending upon your desire for excitement. All the trips are on the Arkansas River, either through Brown's Canyon or through the Royal Gorge. The extra cost is between $35 and $85 and is paid at the ranch. All the guest accommodation is within a convenient distance of the dining room, the corral and the river. Most of the cabins have two bedrooms and a private bath, some with a sitting room adjoining. You will also find a pleasant assortment of common areas such as the games room, recreation hall, library, a heated swimming pool and a hot tub. You can count on plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables to go along with wonderful steaks, chicken, turkey, fish and pastas. Virtually every day they will have a cookout of some kind or another. There is a great kids programme during the High Season for both young ones and teenagers.
